Divine Guidance Through Miracles and Abiding Love
Orthodox believers are convinced, on one hand, by the actual deed of God, which is manifested through miracles and signs that testify to Divine wisdom and power, and on the other hand, by constant abiding in the Word of Jesus Christ and by the love among believers. In other words, the truth of God's guidance is confirmed not only by external miracles but also by the inner state of the soul and the relationships among Christ’s disciples. Thus, according to one source, those regarded as Christ’s disciples are not only the ones who perform miracles in the Lord’s name but also bear the foremost sign—love for one another. The text provides the following: "If you wish, we will prove it to you in another way. 'Seventy disciples' came to him, says the evangelist, and, rejoicing, they said: 'Lord! even demons are subject to us in your name.' And he said to them: 'Do not rejoice, however, that the spirits are subject to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven.'
You see, as always, life deserves praise?Let us now repeat the above: 'By this everyone will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another' (John 13:35)" (source: link txt).It is also emphasized that the true disciples are those who “abide in” the word of Jesus. This is testified by another passage: "From that time many of His disciples withdrew and no longer walked with Him (John 6:59-67). Were not these also called disciples according to the word of the Gospel? And yet truly they were not disciples because they did not abide in His word, in accordance with what was said: 'If you abide in My word, then you are truly My disciples'" (source: link txt). Thus, Orthodox believers are convinced that their lives, filled with God’s wisdom and action, are confirmed by signs, and that true discipleship is defined by an inner transformation—love for one another and constant abiding in the Word of Christ. These marks serve as evidence that they are led by God Himself, and that they are the true disciples of Jesus Christ.
