Transformation of Faith: From Fear to Love
The absence of fear of the Last Judgment leads to a change in its perception from a threat of punishment to a positive guide for spiritual life. In the beginning, a person lives guided by the fear of condemnation, which drives them to perform good deeds out of a sense of compulsion and slavish submission. However, when this fear subsides, the individual begins to do good not out of fear, but as a voluntary, sincere expression of service and love, seeking reward and communion with God rather than merely avoiding punishment.Supporting citation(s):"In the initial stage, a person's moral sense is stirred by the fear of the Last Judgment, compelling the person by his own strength to perform good deeds... The striving Christian gradually acquires a new foundation for performing good deeds: he does them not as a slave – out of fear, but as a servant – for the sake of reward." (source: link txt)
