Divine Revelation and the Knowledge of God
People obtain knowledge of the true God primarily not through mere human reason or accumulated books, but through direct revelation and the action of the Spirit of God. As noted in one source, God is the source of being and of all knowledge:"God is the source of being; and in Him is the source of all knowledge. He did not withhold His marvelous wisdom from us. The Spirit of God led the minds of the apostles and prophets into the treasury of God's wisdom; from there, they drew and proclaimed to us..." (source: link txt). This means that true knowledge of God is achieved through revelation delivered by the Spirit of Truth. A similar sentiment is expressed in another passage, where it is stated:"...For the knowledge of God, Revelation is given. But the Son does not reveal Himself directly, but through the Spirit of Truth, Who teaches all things and guides into every truth..." Thus, the knowledge of the true God is realized through divine revelation given to the chosen, and through the awakening of spiritual sensitivity when the natural abilities of the mind combine with a gift from God Himself.Supporting citations:"God is the source of being; and in Him is the source of all knowledge. He did not withhold His marvelous wisdom from us. The Spirit of God led the minds of the apostles and prophets into the treasury of God's wisdom; they drew from there and proclaimed to us, proclaimed a wisdom that none of the princes of this age – not the geniuses – have known or could know.
What, then, remains for us?" (source: link txt)"We love the Triune God in Christ. Our salvation is inextricably linked to the knowledge of the Son of God, received with all one’s heart and mind. For the knowledge of God, Revelation is given. But the Son does not reveal Himself directly, but through the Spirit of Truth, who teaches all things and guides into every truth (John 14:26; 16:13)."
