Transcendent Joy of Detachment

A person who is free from attachment to worldly things is characterized by profound inner lightness, freedom, and spiritual exaltation. Such a person, as described in one of the sources, is like "a light bird soaring high-high in the azure sky"; he lives on Earth, but as if "barely touching it," remaining untouched by the fleeting and transient nature of the material world. It is precisely this ability not to cling to perishable things that allows him to maintain a state of true happiness and bliss, to be "happy" both internally and externally.

Supporting citation(s):
"These people are very happy, blissful indeed! They are so light and free, just like heavenly birds... they lived without indulging, without clinging to earthly, perishable things, and were above them" (source: link txt).

It is also noteworthy that the true happiness of such a person does not depend on external circumstances and earthly pleasures – his inner world remains clear and free from the hustle and bustle of material existence. This allows him to preserve an entirely different, exalted perspective on life.
